Ovangkol is an evergreen tree in the Fabaceae family known by the common names amazique, amazoué, hyedua, black hyedua, mozambique, ovangkol, and shedua.Mostly found in West Africa, primarily in rain forest. Ovangkol is an excellent toonwood for fretboards, back/sides, and sides of guitars and bass guitars. It’s a dense yet relatively soft hardwood with a rich overtone profile and significant sustain, producing a warm tone. In guitar, it is mostly used in the backs and sides. Ovangkol or shedua are alternatives to Indian rosewood. Guitar fingerboards were also used by Ovangkol.
