Wood & Products
We carry a wide selection of premium tonewoods including East Indian Rosewood, Cocobolo, Ebony, Koa, Mahogany, Maple, Walnut, Ziricote, Bubinga, Wenge, Sitka Spruce, Western Red Cedar, and many more. Our tonewood inventory includes back and side sets, tops, neck blanks, fingerboards, headplates, bridge blanks, and bindings for acoustic and electric guitars, ukuleles, mandolins, and other stringed instruments.
Yes, the majority of our wood is kiln dried to appropriate moisture content levels for woodworking and instrument building. Moisture content details are noted in product listings where applicable. If you have specific moisture content requirements, please contact us before ordering.
Some of the exotic species we carry, such as Brazilian Rosewood and certain Ebony varieties, are regulated under CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species). We comply fully with all CITES regulations and US import laws. For regulated species, we provide appropriate documentation. International buyers are responsible for compliance with their country's import requirements.
Tonewoods are wood species specifically selected for their acoustic properties — the way they transmit, amplify, and color sound. They are graded for straightness of grain, tap tone, stiffness-to-weight ratio, and figure. Regular lumber is selected primarily for structural or aesthetic purposes. At California Exotic Hardwoods, our tonewoods are hand-selected by experts for instrument-grade quality.
Yes! We have a free Wood Species Library on our website where you can browse detailed information about each species we carry, including its properties, workability, uses, and appearance. We also offer a free Wood Comparison Tool and a Board Feet Calculator to help you plan your projects.
