This combo pack from California Exotic Hardwoods includes one Purpleheart, one Spalted Tamarind and one Granadillo bowl blank, each cut to 6" x 6" x 2" and ready to mount on the lathe. It is a great way to try different species, build a matching set of bowls, or stock up on premium blanks at a better price than buying them one at a time.

What's in the Pack

  • 1 x Purpleheart: Cuts brown and oxidizes to a deep violet-purple, one of the few truly purple woods in nature.
  • 1 x Spalted Tamarind: Dark reddish-brown wood with black spalting lines that look like hand-drawn ink on every blank.
  • 1 x Granadillo: A dense tropical hardwood in rich reddish-brown to dark tones, with a smooth finish and a natural luster.

Turning and Finishing

  • All three woods are dense and hard, so keep your tools sharp and take light cuts for the cleanest surface.
  • Purpleheart is vivid right after turning and slowly darkens toward brown in sunlight. A UV-resistant finish helps keep the purple longer.
  • Spalted wood can be softer in the spalted areas, so sand carefully and consider a stabilizing or hard-wearing finish.
  • Granadillo and Purpleheart take oils, waxes and clear coats very well and polish to a high shine.
  • Always wear a dust mask when turning and sanding dense tropical hardwoods, since the fine dust can irritate.

Good to Know

  • Every piece is natural, so color, grain and spalting vary from blank to blank.
  • Wood can still expand or shrink slightly as humidity changes.
  • Please measure each blank before you start your project. Dimensions are approximate and may vary by about 1/8".
