El padauk, cortado inicialmente con un llamativo tono bermellón, es una distintiva madera dura africana de veta abierta. Con el paso del tiempo, adquiere gradualmente el color del palo rosa. En ocasiones, se encuentran troncos gigantes, que producen tablas impresionantes y de gran tamaño. El padauk puede utilizarse como un sustituto aceptable del palo rosa de la India para fondos y aros de guitarra.

Textura: La veta suele ser recta, aunque a veces puede estar entrelazada. Presenta una textura gruesa y abierta, y un buen brillo natural.
