First cut with a striking Vermillion tint, padauk is a distinctive open-grained African hardwood. As it ages, it gradually takes on the colour of rosewood. Occasionally, gigantic logs are available, producing stunning, large boards. Padauk can be used as an acceptable substitute for Indian rosewood for guitar backs and sides.
